Bloggers From Omaha No. 3 – Christi Leupold

Kim’s note: This is the third installment in a series introducing different voices from around Omaha. Each week, I’ll introduce a different Omaha blogger, what his or her blog is all about, and since I love getting recommendations as much as I love giving them, I’ve asked each person to share some Omaha tips.

Describe your blog in five words. Honest, adventurous, genuine, funny, insightful

What are the two most popular posts on your blog? What makes them so good?

I wrote one about my breastfeeding journey and one about my weight loss (?) journey. Both were gut wrenchingly honest. I didn’t sugar coat anything and it wasn’t all pretty. Neither made me look good or perfect but showed that I am a real person with real struggles – and I believe people can relate to that. My hope in sharing both stories was to help people feel normal if their experiences were less than perfect as well.

What social media channel are you on the most and why?

Instagram. It feels less cluttered and more streamlined. Facebook can get a little overwhelming with all the options for posting, sharing, playing games, etc. Instagram is a collection of photos and videos and that is it. Life is more visual for me that just 120 characters or an exhaustive Facebook update. Although, sometimes the hashtags get a little out of control for some people. I am a fan of the ironic hashtag.

You get one hour to spend on writing, where in Omaha do you go?

If this was ever an option for this working mom (I write on lunch breaks and after bedtime)… probably Lauritzen Gardens or an outdoor location. Hopefullym not in 90+ weather or rain!

If friends visit from out of town, what three places would you take them to?

We would start the day at Over Easy for breakfast (they have homemade pop tarts!), then we would take an adventure to Blackstone District to explore the newly restored area and hit up the byov (vinyl) happy hour at the Night Owl, and end the in the Old Market dining at The Boiler Room and exploring all the Market has to offer.

What’s your favorite free thing to do in Omaha?

The Farmer’s Markets! There are so many different locations you can hit up on different days of the week. We really like the original location downtown on Saturday morning. This last weekend after purchasing produce and pastries – we hit up another free activity with our one year old at the Kaneko Art Gallery – their “Play” exhibit was fantastic and free.

My name is Christi Leupold and I am the author of Leupold Confidential, a life blog. The idea of this blog stemmed from a guest blog my boss asked me to write for my law firm’s blog about being a new mother, titled “Little Toes, Big Changes.” After receiving positive feedback from family, friends and strangers alike, I decided that I would try my hand at a blog of my own.

As a new working mother, I craved an outlet for my creativity. I find that writing my blog allows me to be creative, but it also provides a place to vent and share my thoughts – like a public journal. My goal is to be as honest and genuine as I can with universal subject matter.

I am a working mother to a 1-year-old, with a devoted and supportive husband. I am the Marketing Director at Koenig|Dunne Divorce Law. I dabble in digital visual design work, freelancing the design of invitations and other self-print products. My free time is spent reading books for my book club, training for the next race, and eating fabulous foods!
