Ugly Sweater Run With Kids

Ugly Sweater 2014 5 Title

My family ran our first 5K together on Sunday - The Ugly Sweater Run. I use “ran” rather liberally here. When you sign up a 3- and 5-year-old for a 5K, you have to go in with a certain understanding. PRs aren’t happening. There will likely be pitstops. There may be some piggyback rides. Lots of piggyback rides.   But, it’s worth it. We’ll have great memories of the time we … [More...]

Review: A Christmas Story The Musical

I took Farley, my 5-year-old, to see “A Christmas Story The Musical” at The Rose. I didn’t know what to expect from him watching this show, though. He hasn’t seen the movie (poor, deprived child) and I recalled how I reacted to the movie the first time I saw it (I was bored - but it grew on me over … [More...]

Tropical Escapes In Omaha

The Lied Jungle inside Omaha's zoo is as close as you're going to get to an exotic escape without leaving the city. Photo courtesy Nebraska Tourism

Sooner or later, the reality of a Nebraska winter will set in: OMG, it’s cold outside. Winter and I don’t go well together. I wish I had a rainy day fund large enough to send me to the tropics each winter, but I don’t. I have to find closer escapes, something indoors. Tropical settings in … [More...]
